“Tweens” are in a tough spot. They’re not children anymore but they’re not yet teens, so finding books that are appropriate for their age group can be challenging. You don’t want to choose something too adult before they’re ready, but you also don’t want to insult them with a kid’s book either.

Try these book suggestions from DAS Demo that fall right in the middle of "Children’s Fiction" and "Young Adult."

“Monkey Island” by Paula Fox. In “Monkey Island,” Clay Garrity is homeless in New York City. He soon finds himself in the care of two homeless men who help him survive.

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” by C.S. Lewis is a classic. Tweens will find themselves falling into the wardrobe alongside Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy and landing in Narnia, where a lion rules and an evil witch threatens to cast winter over Narnia forever.

“The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 1)” by Lemony Snicket. The Lemony Snicket series has become quite popular among tweens. The first book has also been made into a major motion picture. The first installment of the Lemony Snicket books follows Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire who have lost both their parents and home in a fire. As the title of the book suggests, don’t expect a happy ending. But your tween will be laughing right up until the final page.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. This seven-book series has taken the world by storm. If your tween hasn’t read these books yet, they’re sure to please. Your tween won’t be able to resist following Harry Potter and his friends Ron and Hermione on their good versus evil journey to defeat Dark wizard Lord Voldemort.

“The Maze of Bones (39 Clues Series #1)" by Rick Riordan. The “39 Clues Series” is not just a book – it also involves trading cards and an online game. Your tween will soon be hooked on this series, which allows them to participate like no other book. Thirty-nine clues have been hidden around the world that will reveal the Cahill family secrets. Only no one has ever been able to assemble them. Readers of this series can compete for prizes. Riordan is also the author of two other series – the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series and “The Kane Chronicles.” Both of these series are also great reads that also include interesting information about Greek and Egyptian mythology.

“Artemis Fowl” (Books 1-5) by Eoin Colfer. In “Artemis Fowl,” twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl, who happens to be a millionaire, genius and criminal mastermind, kidnaps a fairy. Only he doesn’t realize what he’s taken on by doing so.

“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games Series has become a bestseller and is quite popular with tweens. The story follows Katniss, a 16-year-old girl who lives in a poor part of Panem, all that remains of the United States. This sci-fi story follows Katniss in a game of kill or be killed.

“Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott. This classic novel is perfect for tweens. They’ll fall in love with the March sisters – Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy.
